Lars Bohman Showroom is pleased to show Mathias Johansson's unique portrait series of the legendary artist Louise Bourgeois. The photo suite is shot between 1995 and 1998 when Mathias Johansson met Bourgeois in her home in Manhattan and when he photographed in her studio in Brooklyn, New York.
The intimacy that Mathias Johansson's images expresses reflects Bourgeois' rarely seen artistry and a personality that has made a permanent mark in the history of modern art.
Mathias Johansson portrait suite has previously been shown at Malmö Konsthall, Sweden, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Denmark and at Lars Bohman Gallery, Stockholm in 1998.
It also includes the Moderna Museet in Stockholm and Louisiana Museum of Modern Art collections and Sammlung Hauser und Wirth, Zurich.
Lars Bohman Gallery arranged the first exhibition with Louise Bourgeois in Sweden in 1998. The show, titled New Works, included the work Spider, the giant bronze spider that was later show in large format in the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern in London.
