Claes Jurander writes:

" I have access to a garden . The presence of this garden is the starting point for my exhibition consisting of paintings and an animated film. In the film I have tried to portray the possibilities and impossibilities of the vision in terms of a deeper understanding of what I see in the garden.

Regarding my paintings, for a long period of time I nourished the dream of being like an Emil Nolde, strolling around in a beautiful small garden, a bit distracted with the secateur, cutting of a wilted flower here and there, inhaling the rose scents and sounds of the nightingale song. To sit down on a three-legged chair and paint the most beautiful flower. But I am not there yet. I have not united my inner gardener with my artistry. As a painter in this garden I am more drawn to the October compost, to that of the cold and the dark deconstructed state, where the last of the cabbage leafs dissolve in themost beautiful of colors, light ocher, caput mortum and verona green earth.

That I ended up where I ended up is perhaps because I am "genetically" tuned into a Nordic minor chord? Or a more or less learned inability to paint the so-called "spinach" that we all wanted to run away from during our years in school. Either way, this body of work is manifested in a suite of images that visibly or by association have their beginnings in a garden on Svartsjölandet rather late in the fall.

With this body of work I stand in sharp contrast to my fellow exhibitor Jarl Ingvarsson. It is a great pleasure for me to share the exhibition space with this sensual, color-affirming and so clear sighted painter "
