Brendan Cass is somewhat of a free spirit and his work show signs of his interest in spiritualism. His works is a celebration of the transcendental voyage. They show mental travel rather than physical. For Cass, travel is a metaphor for consciousness and his works mediate emotion rather than rationalism. He is mostly known for bright often large-scale landscapes. The later works tend to show a slightly more melancholy side opposed to the vivid, joy-filled vibe that the older works show.
After leaving metropolitan New York his palette became darker. The dusky violet night sky in rural Connecticut, unobstructed by streetlights and urban buzz had a massive impact on him. He embarked on a mental journey into a landscape filled with the spirits of the night that resulted in the body of work now on display in the gallery.
Brendan Cass was born in 1974 in New Jersey, USA. He now lives and works in New York. He received his artistic training at Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts, Bard College, Annandale, New York, at School of Visual Art, New York and at The SUNY Purchase, in Purchase, New York. Brendan Cass has exhibited a number of well-established galleries for example at Stellan Holm Gallery, New York, Freight & Volume, New York, Leo Koenig Inc, New York, McClain Gallery, Houston, USA and Kenny Schachter/Rove, London.
