Galleri Lars Bohman is pleased to announce Bjarne Melgaard's fifth exhibition in the gallery. The exhibition consists of a series of new paintings that recently showed at Malmö Konstmuseum.
Melgaard's art exudes a desire to be free of classifications and prejudices and strives for that which is limitless. He has long been known as the artist who provoked viewers and the public with works and exhibitions exploring the boundaries of societal acceptance. Bjarne Melgaard's art often deals with the dark side of humanity, such as suicide, different forms of aberrations of violence, sexuality and religious beliefs.
In the new works Bjarne Melgaard has found a calmer approach. The words and the harsh comments are still there, but the provoking anger is gone. The paintings convey a softer poetry. The works come from the exhibition Marie-Louise Ekman+Bjarne Melgaard that recently showed at Malmö Konstmuseum. The collaboration between the two artists ran for a couple of years and resulted in a series of work where they had taken part in each other creative process. Bjarne Melgaard's painting will now show at Galleri Lars Bohman.
Bjarne Melgaard has recently been of current interest and had a great success with a solo show at Leo Koenig in New York.
Bjarne Melgaard was born in 1967 in Sydney. He lives and works in Barcelona. He was trained as an artist not only in Norway and Poland but also in Holland, first at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht (1991-92) and later at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam (1992-93). He is represented at, among others: Moderna Museet, Stockholm; Malmö Konstmuseum, Malmö; Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthall, Stockholm; MOMA, New York; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; MARTa Herford; Statens Museum for Kunst, Copenhagen; Astrup Fearnley Museum of Contemporary Art, Oslo; Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki; Musée Moderne de la Ville, Strasbourg; S.M.A.K., Ghent, and Kunsthalle zu Kiel, Kiel.
