Georg Guðni was for many years engrossed in capturing the essence of the Icelandic landscape. With layer upon layer of colour and varnish he builds up his mediative, shimmering paintings. A central element in earlier works was the dominating mountains and hills, but in later paintings the landscape has levelled out and beome abstract and the light is more intense. Despite the high degree of abstraction, the distinct nature of the vast, Icelandic landscape remains.
